CHS - CRANWELLIAN 'COMBATANTS'

These two graphics link to separate documents on the Cranwellians' contribution to the Battle of Britain. The underlined titles below link to an edited version of Film of the Few with the names of RAF pilots superimposed on the 4 minute clip, courtesy of Mike Smith (91 Entry).Info
The five albums below pay tribute to Cranwellians involved in other aspects of WWII: those VVIPs who trained with the College SFTS during WWII; those who served in Bomber Cmd in WWII; those involved in the Dambusters and Crossbow operations; those taken PoW by the Germans and the Japenese. Click on each graphic.Info
The two graphics immediately below are from the same album addressing the "Cranwellian Forgotten" serving in Coastal Cmd and Overseas Cmds during WWII. The term "Forgotten" is a colloquialism arising in Post-WWII years, belatedly recognising the achievements that to some extent may have been overshadowed by Fighter and Bomber Cmd exploits, but were nonetheless pivotal to success in WWII. Click either graphic to read their stories.Info
Clicking on the four graphics below enables access to College activities during WWII. At either end of the section are the two graphics that take you to the stories of two lodger units: 3 (C) TU and 2 CFS. The College SFTS graphic will reveal the students, many of them international students, who underwent flying training at Cranwell and where accommodated in CHOM during WWII. The "Cranwell Bombed" graphic reveals F540 ORB entries that highlight some of the attacks made on Cranwell and the loss of three lives, a flying instructor, a Turkish student and an AC2 (lest we forget).Info
Constantly being updated as we find out more, clicking on the graphic below enables access to the stories of those Cranwellians who served in Korea, some of whom were decorated by the President of the United States. There were three losses.Info
Grateful to the RAF Historical Society and to RAF 100 initiatives, we are able in this section to give some coverage to Cranwellian contributions during the Cold War and Falklands campaign. Click on the graphics.Info
The two graphics below will take you to the Cranwellian contributions of more recent conflicts. Maintaining an interest in the wellbeing of the seven Ukranians who attended the College (2014-2016), we update the left hand album each year to acknowledge the efforts they and their counterparts make to defending their homeland. Acknowledging that officer cadets of all branches have received SGIOT at the College since 1978, we attempt to acknowledge their scarifice and achievements during more recent theatre conflicts.Info
